Hold, don’t tap. Press the talk keys together (fn + Control on a Mac, Ctrl + Win on Windows), keep them down while you talk, and let go when you finish. On Windows, a quick tap opens the typing box instead, so Bubble never starts listening by accident.

Still quiet? On a Mac, if you switched on Accessibility after AirBubble opened, quit it and open it again. Check that no other app has claimed the same keys. And if your words turn into typed text, you are holding the dictation keys (fn + Option on a Mac, Alt + Win on Windows).

On a Mac, click in the box before you type: opening the box from the notch does not put the cursor in it.

On a Mac, a permission change is read when the app next opens. Quit AirBubble fully and open it again. If the switch in System Settings › Privacy & Security is already on, turn it off and on, then reopen the app. After an update, macOS sometimes holds on to the old entry.

While you are there, check all three. Screen Recording lets Bubble see your screen when you ask. Accessibility lets him point and act in your apps. Microphone lets him hear you. Bubble asks for each one the first time you open the app.

On Windows, Bubble needs only the Microphone. Turn it on in Windows Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone, then quit and reopen AirBubble.

On a Mac, a spoken answer with no marks nearly always means Screen Recording is off. Without it Bubble cannot see your screen, so talking is all he can do. Switch it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security, then quit and reopen AirBubble.

Already on, or on Windows? Look at your other display. Bubble answers on the screen your pointer is on, so with two screens the marks can land on the one you were not watching.

He stands on your main display, wherever you last put him, and you can drag him anywhere. On a Mac, double-click him and he tucks into the notch. Hold fn + Control and he comes back out.

If he is nowhere to be seen and holding the keys does nothing, AirBubble is probably not running. Open it from Applications on a Mac, or from the Start menu on Windows, and try again.

Check where your sound is going. In System Settings › Sound on a Mac, or Windows Settings › System › Sound, pick the output you are listening on. Headphones that connect halfway through an answer are the usual cause.

Bubble needs the internet to talk. If your connection dropped partway, the marks can arrive while his voice does not. Ask again once you are back online.

Holding the dictation keys (fn + Option on a Mac, Alt + Win on Windows) does nothing until you switch on Hold to dictate in Settings. On a Mac, Command + Option + D starts and stops dictation either way.

Your words land wherever your cursor is when you let go. Click into the field first, then hold, speak and let go without clicking anywhere else. If a notification or a search box takes the cursor while you hold, it takes the text too.

If nothing arrives at all on a Mac, check Accessibility. It is the permission that lets AirBubble type into other apps. Grant it, then quit and reopen AirBubble.

Tap to accept when it offers to take notes, or on a Mac press Command + Option + N for a blank recording straight away. If neither works, check the Microphone permission in System Settings › Privacy & Security on a Mac, or in Windows Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone.

A session that seems to have vanished most likely ended on its own. The Notetaker stops after eight quiet minutes, so it never records an empty room.

Bubble acts when you ask him to do something, in your own words, as in “archive these three emails”. Ask him how, and he shows you instead. Check that Let Bubble act is on in Settings and, on a Mac, that Accessibility is granted.

He starts as soon as you ask. Before a step he can tell sends or deletes something, he asks you once. To hand him tasks by voice, check that Start tasks at once is on in Settings too.

If he is ever doing something you did not mean, say stop, press Stop or move your mouse. He stops at once, even halfway through, and asks what to change. Switch Let Bubble act off and he stays off. The trust centre explains how you stay in charge.
