The work

The hard parts. Pick the one you want.

Each of these is a problem someone on the team will own.

Subject:Working on AirBubble: Doing the work for people

Hi,

The hard part I want: Doing the work for people.

Someone hands over a task and Bubble does it in the app they have open, even one he has never seen before. Making that feel sure and quick everywhere is where you come in.

  • What I built, and the fix nobody else wanted to make.a short note
  • A link to something I made.something we can open
  • Where I am, and the hours I keep.where you are

A person reads it and answers, even when it is no.

Send

Short is fine. Four honest sentences and one thing you made beat a formatted packet.

How we work

Small enough that every change is yours.

This is how the last few months have actually gone.

  • Ownership

    Everyone is on the product

Nothing sits between writing a change and watching someone use it. You own your piece from the first line to the last.

  • Daily use

    We run it all day

AirBubble is open on the same Mac we build it on. Most fixes start as something one of us tripped over in the middle of real work.

  • Decisions

    Written down, then proven

The rules live in the repo, right next to the code they govern. If we say the app does something, a test proves it.

  • Platforms

    Done properly, or not yet

Mac today. Windows soon, and nothing ships anywhere until it feels like it belongs there.

  • Honesty

    We say what is true

No invented numbers on this site, and no claims the app cannot back up today. Hiring works the same way, so you always know where things stand.

  • Focus

    Quiet by default

Long stretches of focus and very few meetings. We work the way Bubble does, quiet until someone needs us.

Questions

Before you write.

Where we have not decided something yet, we say so.

  1. Is a speculative note really worth sending?

It is the only way in right now, so yes. Nobody is ahead of you in a listing queue, and a note about work you have already done is the strongest kind.

  2. Do I need to have shipped a Mac app?

No. Much of the work will feel familiar to anyone who has built fast, careful software anywhere. If you have not written for the Mac before, say so and tell us what you have built instead.

  3. Where do I need to be?

We have not settled a location policy, so say where you are and which hours you keep. We will tell you straight whether it can work.

  4. Do you take contract or part-time work?

We have not decided yet, and would rather say so than promise either way. If a short engagement is what you want, describe the shape you have in mind and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.

  5. Is there an internship?

There is no internship programme. If you are a student and the work above is how you want to spend a summer, write anyway and say what you have built.

  6. What happens after I send it?

A person reads it and answers, including when the answer is no. If there is something to talk about, we start with your work. No puzzles.

  7. What happens to my note if nothing is open?

We keep it 6 months from the day it arrives, so we can write back if a role opens, then delete it. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will, without asking why.

  8. Where do I see what the product actually does?

The features page shows it at work, and the trust page covers how it keeps you in charge. Both say more than any job description could.
